X. The Psychology of Folk: The Horse at the Well?

Review of last class

 

In Lecture IX. we looked at the mythology of the new Colonial Union, the legendstock of George Washington, the beginning of Presidential Hoopla and spin in campaigns (Harrison and Tyler).  We also investigated the image of the US President in the figure of folk heroes such as Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and John Kennedy.  Along the way we heard about the mummy of John Wilkes Booth.

Then, we reviewed the kinds of folk expectations that cultures have had about their rulers, dead and alive, over the centuries, with a particular look at China.
