Many of the men who are working in electronic formats do not quite fit into our rubric, but are creating exciting, groundbreaking work.  You will surely want to add these to your collection!

In-hand Media and CD-ROM

Much of the early, excellent hypertext work was done for floppy disk.  Recent publications have been too elaborate for the web and have been released on CD-ROM.  Eastgate Systems is the best-known publisher of these hypertexts.

Clark Humphrey--The Perfect Couple -- Eastgate Systems

John Mc Daid -- Uncle Buddy's Phantom Funhouse -- Eastgate Systems

Tim Mc Laughlin --Notes Toward Absolute Zero -- Eastgate Systems

Richard Smyth -- Genetis:  A Rhizography -- Eastgate Systems

Rob Swigart -- DownTime Interactive -- forthcoming from Eastgate Systems

Michael Von Mantgem-- Completing the Circle -- Eastgate Systems

Web/Text/Index Works

While they do not specifically take advantage of web authoring features, the following works are excellent examples of electronic text with navigational links.

Adnan Ashraf --The Straight Path -- Co-Winner of the first NYU Press Prize for Hyperfiction.

Pratik Kanjilal -- The Buddha Smiled --Co-Winner of the first NYU Press Prize for Hyperfiction.

Nick Montfort--Winchester's Nightmare

Nick Montfort and William Gillespie --The Ed Report

Milorad Pavic -- Damascene

Michael Shumate -- Holier Than Thou

Dual Publication Formats

While our focus is on pieces that reside fully on the web, other authors have done cross-media work, designed to be read partially on the web and to provide a longer version on CD-ROM--a couple of fine examples:

Lawrence Clark-- _WeR1_  -- CD, Audio, and Web

Alan Sondheim -- "Con/Text/Sub" --   Produced by RailRoad Earth

Gallery Installations with Sites on the Web

Many artists who display work in complex, real-time installations also preview their projects on the web--and many of these installation-web-projects have a high degree of narrative and literary interest.  Some of these (only a few of the many excellent artists) include:

Ken Goldberg

Jeff Gompertz

Eduardo Kac

John Simon

Non-English

The Web is a world-wide phenomenon, just as it promises--and some of the most stunning work is being done by men who are working in languages other than English.   While our gallery space is limited, we hope you will take time to look at the work of writers and artists all over the world.  Some good writers to watch for:

Patrick Burgaud

Phillippe Castellin

Julien d'Abrigeon

Markku Eskelinen

Shuen-shing Lee (a.k.a. Poseidon)

Dajuin Yao
