Literature 45 -- Women in Literature

Ticket Number:  #90065

All along there will be important information that I will need to share with you.  Please check this page weekly!

August 20, 2012

Dear Women's Lit folks -

Welcome to Literature 45 - Women in Literature!  I look forward to meeting you all online as soon as the semester starts!

If, after reading the Mandatory Orientation, you have questions about the way that your work will be completed and evaluated for this course, be sure to bring this up on the Discussion List!  I have tried to clarify the Grading Guidelines and the content of each segment of your Required Work, below.

The Weekly Postings are the equivalent of attending class.  You must post every week to pass the class.  For some weeks, there are specific assignments.  Other weeks, you will be sharing your responses to the reading and your own research.  Assignments can help to form the basis of your Research Project. That is, as you write the Weekly Assignments, you may be writing a part of the text that can be used in your Research Project.  However, the actual Research Project would be a complete essay, shaped from the Weekly Assignments - not the Weekly Assignments in raw form.

here is the text from the Assignments Page:
*The Weekly Assignments encourage you to research and analyze the work of this writer and respond to her work in the light of the issues we will study in class. At the end of the class, you will summarize your findings about a specific author in a formal research paper. The collected, shaped, and organized research will constitute your Final Research Project.*

The Weekly Assignments are not "graded" themselves. They form the 20% of your grade that is the Class Participation.

Also, you need to read all the posts from the students for the week.  The Discussion list is our class session.  I will often convey important information to students in answer to their posts.

The Final Research Project, then, will be the result of your own research into your author and perhaps some suitable text compiled from the Weekly Assignments. Some students will use more of their Weekly Assignment material than others.

Your GRADE will be based on these elements.

Final Research Project: 65% - Due Wednesday, December 12, 2012 (the end of the
last WEEK of classes)
Final Exam - 15% - Wednesday, December 12, 2012
Weekly Exercises (every week) and Participation on the list Discussion - 20% - Submit until December 12, 2012.

1. Written Work

The written assignments for the class will count for 80% of your grade.

Two Written Assignments will be required of those seeking a grade (that is, both the Research Paper and the Take-Home Final Exam). If you wish to take the class Credit/NoCredit, you need only do the Final Research Project. See about these below:

A. Final Research Project. (65% of grade)

B. Take-home, written Final Exam. (15% of grade)

2. Class Participation [required for all students]

The class participation evaluation for the class will count for 20% of your grade. This includes weekly participation in the discussion group and
timely submission of your weekly exercises to the Discussion List.  Note:  You must post on time each and every week of the course to PASS the course.  Also, you need to read all the posts from the students for the week.  The Discussion list is our class session.  I will often convey important information to students in answer to their posts.

Have a great semester!

Always, Marjorie C. Luesebrink
